IronPDF PDF/UA Compliance
IronPDF generates tagged PDF documents that conform to ISO 14289-1 (PDF/UA-1), the international standard for accessible PDFs. Output is validated with VeraPDF, which confirms the files meet the structural requirements of PDF/UA-1.
Validation results
- VeraPDF: passes validation, confirming structural conformance with ISO 14289-1.
- PAC (PDF Accessibility Checker): may report failures on the same documents.
A document can pass VeraPDF and still fail PAC, because the two tools check different things.
What this means
IronPDF-generated PDFs are structurally compliant with ISO 14289-1. Practical accessibility issues, such as missing alternative text, incorrect tag nesting, or untagged annotations, can still cause failures in stricter tools like PAC. Teams in regulated environments may need extra validation or post-processing outside IronPDF to meet usability-focused accessibility requirements.
Roadmap
Iron Software is investigating improvements to align with validators like PAC and to strengthen screen reader support. The goal is to meet both the technical requirements of ISO 14289-1 and the practical accessibility expectations enforced by tools based on ISO 32000-1.
